Dios softly hummed to herself as she contemplated questions of great importance: Blue or red? Frills or no frills? Pirate or ninja? She pondered over these questions as she faced a mirror. As she held up different outfits against herself, she judged them on fit, utility, but most importantly, cuteness.
Picking an outfit for a con was always tricky: pick a character that was too popular, and you ended up one of a hundred Sailor Moons or Faye Valentines. Pick one that was too obscure and you spent half of your time explaining exactly whom it was you were cosplaying as.
A sliver of light penetrated the small room, making its occupant just barely visible to the naked eye. Being a bat, however, Dios did not mind the darkness. She shared her home underneath Austin's Congress Avenue Bridge with a million and a half relatives, her room adorned with scrolls and posters featuring her favorite anime and manga characters.
Finally making her choice, Dios contemplated accessories. As she pondered, the sound of rustling could be heard coming from outside the bedroom door. Immediately, Dios frantically looked for something to bar the door with or a place to hide!
Suzaku was early. He was always early on the first day of a con...and the second and the third. In his hand was a San Japan schedule covered with circles, scratch-outs and other notes. He had spent the previous night poring over it and prioritizing his time among San Japan's various panels, events, guests, and anime screenings. He wandered about in front of the Municipal Auditorium, as convention volunteers, guests, and other scurried about this way and that. Suzaku smiled and waved at the occasional familiar face, but the friends he was looking for were nowhere to be found. Looking at his watch, he figured that he had about an hour and a half to burn before Dios, Hinode and Sana arrived.
"Its a nice morning, I think I'll look around downtown before the con starts." Suzaku thought to himself as stuffed the schedule in the back pocked of his blue jeans and started walking towards downtown San Antonio. "Nice likeness" he thought to himself as he saw the silhouette of a longhorn prominently featured on a large orange and white banner hung over the road:
"WELCOME, UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS ALUMNI!"
